About LWV of Grafton/Shrewsbury
The League of Women Voters Grafton/Shrewsbury areas are active in our communities providing public events such as debates and discussions on ballot initiatives and Candidate Forums for local elections. For League members, we hold a Potluck Dinner in early March and Annual Dinner in June. We host engaging speakers at both dinners with plenty of time for members to socialize. Members are also eligible to attend the LWV of Massachusetts many education and advocacy events in person and online. Grafton
The Town of Grafton has an Open Town Meeting - Select Board - Town Administrator local government structure. The five-member Select Board serve as the Chief Executive Office of the town. They appoint the Town Administrator and are elected to three-year staggered terms. The Town Administrator is the Chief Administrative and Fiscal Officer for the Town. Their duties include the full range of administrative and fiscal responsibilities associated with the daily operation of a municipality. Town Meeting Members are the legislative body of the town. Shrewsbury
Since 1953, Shrewsbury has had a Representative Town Meeting - Select Board - Town Manager local government structure. The five-member Select Board serves as the Chief Executive body of the town. They appoint the Town Manager, who reports to them, and are elected to three-year staggered terms. The Town Manager acts as the Chief Administrator and Fiscal Officer for the town and is responsible for the overall operation and day-to-day town affairs. The Town Meeting acts as the legislative body of the town. 240 Town Meeting Members represent ten precincts, based on population, and are elected to three-year staggered terms. The League of Women Voters does not support or oppose any political party or any candidate.
As an organization dedicated to both voter education and advocacy, the League takes strong stances on policy issues relating to voting rights, civil rights, and other issues of importance to members and the public. Federated Model
LWV operates at three levels: local, state, and national.
The federated structure of LWV comprises a national League and affiliated state and local Leagues that are separately incorporated. Those who join the League become members of their local League, their state League, and the national League.
